Equipment

  • Food processor
  • Empanada maker mold
  • Rolling Pin

Ingredients
  

  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups wheat flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup water or what is necessary to make the dough smooth
  • 6 oz pork fat
  • 1 tsp olive oil optional

Instructions
 

Empanada dough preparation

  • In a bowl or food processor, mix the flour with the salt.
  • Then slowly add the pork fat, the water and the egg.
  • If you are doing it with your hands, knead the mixture constantly until you have a smooth dough (not too dry nor too sticky).
  • Roll the dough into a ball, place it in a bowl, cover it, and let it rest for about 2 to 3 hours.

Empanada mold preparation

  • Using a rolling pin, roll out the previously made ball of dough. It does not have to be too thin nor too thick.
  • Then with the empanada maker mold (you can buy them or use the upper edge of a glass), cut rounds of dough.
  • Another option is to make dough balls of the size you want for your empanadas and give them a circular shape with the rolling pin.

Notes

  • If the dough is getting sticky, add a little more flour.
  • If the dough is too dry, add water.
  • You can also let the empanada dough rest for a day or two, as long as it is well covered and in the fridge.
